Bintulu Golf Club is an 18-hole international standard golf course in Sarawak Malaysia for you to swing to your heart’s contention. This Sarawak golf course offers a great challenge to golfers in its undulating terrain and also a breathtaking view of the South China Sea from the hilltop club house, while savouring local and continental dishes in the open air restaurant after a perfect round of golf.
Bintulu Golf Club is located in Bintulu, once a sleepy hollow has been transformed into a thriving township with the discovery of natural gas. Now it has many attractions and one of them is the 6796 yards 18-holes layout, sculptured from a 140 acres strip of jungle which comes with a breathtaking view of the majestic South China Sea.
Work on the early nine holes (Old Course) began in 1985, which became playable in 1988. The New Course, declared open on 1st January 1995 was playable by mid 1995. Designed with a USGA course rating 72.7 and has a slop rating of 127, the layout offers narrow fairways, calling for shot making finesse from golfers on a Malaysia golf holiday.
For the most part, the terrain is hilly and undulating, adding a variety of lies to play. The countless bunkers, ravines and water traps not only add a great deal of scenic looks but also provide a test of nerves for golfers. The sloping and often two-tiered Tifdwarf-turfed greens are fast and tricky and are already known as among some of the golfers in Sarawak.
Due to Bintulu Golf Clubs closeness to the sea, winds constantly prevail. The monsoon season especially, can have a significant effect on the play. The wind conditions are most visible on most holes except at the tenth and eleventh where clumps of trees serve as wind-breakers. Since the wind tends to change direction at a moment’s notice, Malaysia golfers will have to constantly monitor the strength of these gusts. In some cases, the influence can be as much as a two-club difference.
The contemporary clubhouse at this Sarawak golf course offers a range of facilities such as changing rooms, lockers, a restaurant, an open-air golfers’ terrace, a conference and VIP room, a pro-shop and a driving range which also welcomes members of the public. Other amenities, including a swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and a basketball court may materialize sometime in the future.
Being one of the few 18-holes golf courses in Sarawak, the Bintulu Golf Club has become the pride and joy of Sarawak and one of the special golf courses in Malaysia. If you’re in the neighborhood, do drop in, for a pleasant and breezy round can be experienced.
