Gemas Golf Resort is a locally designed 18-hole, par-72 golf course near the northern border of Johor. The resort can be reached within two hours from both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
It was built in 1996 in an environmentally sustainable way, with indigenous species of trees retained and labelled during the construction process. If you are looking for a relaxing game of golf in a natural setting, then this is the course for you. Don’t be surprised to see monkeys and other animals from the forest reserve wandering onto the fairways.
Gemas Golf Resort is quite a hilly course; the front nine are surrounded by beautiful mountain vistas. Memorable holes include the 163 par-3 eighth and the par-5 seventh which is easily the most difficult hole on the course. Maintenance is of a good standard, although greens could be better manicured and small patches on fairways are not uncommon.
The three storey clubhouse includes a small hotel, meeting and function rooms, as well as a restaurant, terrace and locker rooms. Whilst adequate, it is in no way as luxurious as clubhouses on neighboring golf courses. Overall, a round at Gemas Golf Resort is an interesting and authentic Malaysian experience.
